What is ReFi? pt II
As we highlighted in first part of this text, Brazil has the characteristic irony of being at the same time one of the largest food producers in the world and having part of its population starving.
This situation brings us back to the challenges of productive justice that we discussed previously in the text Supply and Demand of primary goods.
There are great approaches to the agrarian issues in Brazil, and from productive arrangements to land distribution, you will rarely find a subject that has not already been the matter of intellectual concern.
Among all these, the most interesting concern those that aim to reduce the role of middlemen and increase the autonomy of producers, innovators and consumers.
In this context, I feel obligated to mention the initiative of the Landless Workers Movement (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Terra - MST) in issuing, together with seven cooperatives, bonds worth $2,58mi reais to expand production.
The minimum investment is just $17,8, and guarantees a return of 5.5% a. a, which makes it accessible to the small investor.
This kind of solution outlines an ideal situation for ReFi, however, it still requires a large structure that involves brokers, managers, etc.
This demand takes us to the case of producers who are not organized, those who, for whatever reason, are apart to these structures.
Such producers remain hostages to productive arrangements that prioritize the profit of middlemen and multinationals while making the dignity of the small producer unfeasible.
This context of marginalization provides fertile ground for the encounter between DeFi and ReFi in Brazil.
The opportunity arises, therefore, because the same condition of marginalization that afflicts disorganized producers, also makes them excellent innovators in the art of survival.
The innovations that are currently their main tool to survive may be converted into methods and models to small producers all over the world. And, of course, they should be rewarded by their contribution.
All the protocols mentioned in first of this text are now available to be explored by all people engaged in experiments with ReFi.
The small producers in Brazil are already eligible to apply to the multiple opportunities of funding, of sharing solutions and raising new questions.
That said, it is important to emphasize that although national borders are not a reality for DeFi applications, it is important that national initiatives are created that are sensitive to Brazilian conditions.
The responsibility for promoting such initiatives is shared by the State, Market and Civil Society, and, in an ideal reality, these entities would assume such responsibility, contributing to a better future.
However, as the wise Ice Blue would say:
"Oh Brown, wake up, this is Capão Redondo, brother, not Pokémon."
The reality is not ideal and expecting traditional institutions of the Market and the State to foster initiatives that threaten their centrality in the design of the future is an exercise in complete naivety.
It is not, neither, the case for hostility, rejecting initiatives for their state or private origin.
What is most important for ReFi, in the end, is to empower the regeneration and conservation of life and minimize the space for middlemen, guaranteeing to those who produce the right to the fruit of their work.
While here in Brazil the discussion about ReFi in blockchain community itself is just beginning, outside the country the discussion is advancing mostly through the people involved in the protocols quoted in the first part of the text.
The main manifestation of this advance is the ReFi Spring events that will take place this year.
The theme of ReFi is the common denominator of the events that will take place in at least seven countries with the possibility of also taking place in Brazil.
Whether you are an investor, producer or someone looking for a professional allocation, ReFi could be the opportunity you were looking for.
If you are curious about the topic and want to know more Cause Artist has listed 18 ReFi projects that are standing out.
All great positive changes in the world started with a small group of determined individuals, the conditions under which these changes occur are nobody's choice, but whether or not to participate in them is everyone's choice.
Be part of the solution!
